About the course

The Master of Education (International) (MEDI) is an innovative course encompassing:

  • international education
  • education policy
  • higher education
  • vocational education
  • language, linguistics and literacy
  • English language teaching in Asia
  • educational leadership
  • Indigenous education and
  • information technology and learning.

This new program responds to the need for professional capabilities required by professionals working in key areas such as (but not limited to) teacher education, education for all, technical and vocational education and training, and higher education. These capabilities include analytical thinking, collaborative learning, project management, and transformative practices in global settings.

Students will be involved in an active learning experience that provides new opportunities to blend theory and practice and customise their learning to meet work-related, personal and professional goals.

Our Master of Education (International) combines a global learning ethos with hands-on opportunities to apply education theory and practice in four areas:

Duration and mode of candidature

The MEDI course can be studied on a full time and part time basis, internally and online. The university accepts student intake in both Semester 1 and Semester 2. Selected units are available for study in Summer Semester to assist students to fast track their studies.

Full time1 year (2 semesters)
Part time2 years (4 semesters)
Individual unitsapproximately 10-12 hours of study time per week

Admission requirements

The South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC) receives and processes applications for admission for Charles Darwin University Higher Education prospective students. If you are interested in applying for a higher education coursework undergraduate or postgraduate course, check the following information about applying to Charles Darwin University.

Successful completion of:
a) a recognised four-year degree in a field related to education; or
b) a recognised three-year degree plus a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Honours degree of which at least one must be in a field related to education; or
c) a qualification or qualifications deemed as being equivalent to the above


All applicants must have a minimum of one-year workplace experience in an occupation related to the field of education.
